Yesterday we had a brainstorm and discussion about class expectations. We boiled the list down to the most important points:
Mutual Respect
Active Listening
Appreciations / No Put-Downs
Participation/Right to Pass
I'll be making a poster of these agreements and I'll post them in the classroom later this week.
Today we had our first Silent Reading session (don't forget to read at home and record it on your reading log!). We also went to the computer lab and started getting everyone set up with a login, iGo, and Google Classroom. We should have everyone set up by tomorrow, so we can start working on Assignment #1 in Google Classroom, and then move on to Assignment 2!
We also introduced the class to FreeRice.com which is an addictive online quiz game where correct answers donate 10 grains of rice to the world food program. For this course you should be doing the English Vocab, English Grammar subjects (though you can play the other subjects from time to time if you like). This is going to be an ongoing assignment in this course, and I will be checking your progress every week. You're expected to earn at least 20 grains of rice (20 correct answers) each week. If you miss a week, you will have to do extra to make up for being late!
Free Rice is also going to be a CHALLENGE between my Per 2 and Per 5 classes - so make sure that you are always logged in and playing for our class group so your grains will count toward the total! There will be a prize for the class who has the most at the end of each month!
