Today (Monday Feb 22) and tomorrow we will be working in small groups (based on your scores on your last couple of concept checks) to practice equations, word problems, and simple inequalities. Please find your group tasks below:
Group Green
(needs to review basics of equations and inequalities)
1. Start with Mrs. Mishra to review rules and steps for inequalities. You will need your notebooks, your whiteboards, and a pen/pencil
2. Work with a partner to do some paper flashcards. You must show your partner your work on your whiteboard to get the answer. Speed is less important that accuracy!
3. Practice some simple online flashcards: Click here, check off each type of question, and then begin. You wil need a pencil and paper (or your whiteboard) to do the steps, then enter your answer.
4. Next, try some of these practice questions on Khan Academy (You can watch the videos if you need a refresher)
--> 2 step equations practice Video
--> Equations with Variables on Both Sides Video
5. Practice on IXL - make sure to write out all of YOUR steps!
(work in pairs or groups of 3, each of you should try the questions, compare answers and type it in. If it says you are out of questions for the day, switch ipads and keep going)
Verifying equations
Write expressions (no equals sign)
6. Try some Inequalities:
Graph Inequalities
Solve 1 step inequalities - Add & Subtract
Solve 1 step inequalities - Multiply & Divide (remember the Golden Rule!)
Solve 2-step inequalities
Graph solutions of 2-step inequalities
Group Blue
(Needs some more practice with higher level Equations & with Inequalities)
1. Try these practice questions on Khan Academy (You can watch the video if you need a refresher)
--> Equations with Variables on Both Sides Video
2. In a group or pair, try some practice questions of harder types of equations on IXL:
(Each of you should try the questions, compare answers and type it in. If it says you are out of questions for the day, switch ipads and keep going)
Multi-Step equations
Variables on Both Sides
Write expressions (no equals sign)
Word Problems - write equation and solve
Verifying Equations
3. Next, let's look at equations with multiple fractions
>A video on solving fractional equations
>A description of how to so these questions, with practice problems --> you uncover solution to once you have tried them!
4. Try some inequalities:
Graph Inequalities
Solve 1 step inequalities - Add & Subtract
Solve 1 step inequalities - Multiply & Divide (remember the Golden Rule!)
Solve 2-step inequalities
Graph solutions of 2-step inequalities
Verify Inequalities
Group Purple
("I've got it! What else can I try?")
1. In a group or pair, try some practice questions of harder types of equations on IXL:
(Each of you should try the questions, compare answers and type it in. If it says you are out of questions for the day, switch ipads and keep going)
--> If a section seems too easy after a couple of questions, skip to the next section!
Write expressions (no equals sign)
Word Problems - write equation and solve
Verifying Equations
3. Next, let's look at equations with multiple fractions
>A video on solving fractional equations
>A description of how to so these questions, with practice problems --> you uncover solution to once you have tried them!
Then move on to some inequalities practice!
Solve 1 step inequalities - Multiply & Divide (remember the Golden Rule!)
Solve 2-step inequalities
Verify Inequalities
Graph solutions of 2-step inequalities.
Try some advanced inequalities
3. In a pair or group of 3, pick one of the Problems of the Week off the side table and work your way through it! If you can figure out the solution I will give you a prize!
On Wednesday we will have a concept check on both levels of equations, and both levels of inequalities (including inequalities with Multiplication and Division - use the golden rule!).
On Thursday we will start the next unit - linear relations
